The Miura-Ori Map

The Miura-Ori Map

Miura-Ori
Folded maps are merciless to the user who makes the slightest error in returning them to their compact form. Pt the Tokyo ICA meeting Koryo Miura and Masamori Sakamaki from Tokyo University's Institute of Space and Aeronautical Science demonstrated an application, of space science which transforms the ergonomics of map folding.

[...] The key to an alternative system of may folding lies in the ancient Japanese art of paper-folding, origami. One of the most common origami effects is to use a variant on concertina folding to produce a slightly ridged surface composed of a series of congruent parallelograms, by a variation on concertina folding.

No suitable nodes are available to serve your request.

that's what I see right now a lot on Guy Kawasaki's blog. We all know "softo" (love the Japanese for this) failures, but these ones are rendered in a very "posh" idiom.

Besides I read and loved Bob Sutton's toughts about assholes. And it's not always easy to avoid being one. Good to read what makes you an asshole and try to think about it next time.

Kodomo no Kuni
The Picture Book Gallery No. 2 Exhibit centers around some 300 illustrations published in the Kodomo no kuni picture book magazine during the first decade after its inauguration in 1922.

Earlier-established journals had featured literature and music for young children, but Kodomo no kuni was the magazine of this type to support the education of young children with focus on art.

Mining Intentionality

Von roger @ 01:12 [ KIT ]
Second Life, MySpace, YouTube--It's All About Mining Intentionality
The more I see in Second Life, the more I realize that one of the most important business opportunities there is mining intentionality. This is a phrase my brilliant colleague Frank Comes came up with to describe what's going in in that space.

People in SL are expressing what they would LIKE to do in reality. For example, it's easy to pimp your car in second life and clearly lots of people want to customize their transport there. All the major auto companies are piling into SL to learn about this--and build their big after-market customizing business in the real world.

A narrative of convergence and participatory culture

Von roger @ 00:09 [ Mondomedia ]
The introduction to Networked Public Culture conveys clearly the chances and risks of our current media culture:
Commercial media, for better and for worse provide much of the source material for our modern language of communication. The current moment is perhaps less about overthrow of this established modality of common culture, but more a plea for recognition of a new layer of communication and cultural sharing. At best, this is about folk, amateur, niche and non-market communities of cultural production mobilizing, critiquing, remixing commercial media and functioning as a test bed for radically new cultural forms. At worst, this is about the fragmenting of common culture or the decay of shared standards of quality, professionalism, and accountability. The history of networked public culture has opened with a narrative of convergence and participatory culture; we lie at the crossroads of multiple unfolding trajectories.

Von roger @ 11:55 [ KAYWA ]
To download the Kaywa Reader which lets you read QR Codes and Datamatrix Codes alike, you have several options:
  • Go to the internet browser of your mobile phone and type: reader.kaywa.com and this takes you to the download page. We check if you have a phone which is supported by the Kaywa Reader.
  • In Switzerland: Send an SMS to 202 with Mobiletag. You get back the Link which brings you immediately to the download page. We check if you have a phone which is supported by the Kaywa Reader.
  • Go to the website: http://reader.kaywa.com and download the Kaywa Reader by syncing with your mobile phone. For the Nokia phones this should be quite easy, for the Sony Ericsson's however, we recommend to download via mobile as there are two files which makes the whole a bit more complicated.
