Tags and "Role"

Well, what do I think about tags? I think they are great, as it is really a bottom-up approach which works, see del.icio.us and technorati.
But I think it could even more powerful by using a role like in Content Model of keyword (see also: keyword in Docbook )
On Portalog, we also let users tag their interests on their about page, here the role is clearly defined.
Somehow we are lacking "role", but I do not know how to do it yet, without making it too complex again.
